Simplifying Your Life..Who Cares What People Think!!

Here are the pictures I have been promising of the giveaways that will be given away on March 31st. All you need to do is to post a comment between now and the 31st. Each post is another entry into the drawing.

Please notice that at the upper right of the blog I have added the layout I did of my friend Staci Compher that was interviewed last week on the blog. It is pretty intimidating doing a layout of her since she is the most published person I know. Her scrap art is AMAZING! But I did it out of love and I know she will like it for that reason alone if nothing else.

One of the things I am working on in the process of simplifying my life is letting go of what other people think of me. I have often found myself being excessively concerned about how others viewed me to the point it would occupy my mind for hours and sometimes days. Have you ever thought to yourself..Oh if I just wouldn't have said that or I wish I had not shared that or I wish I had not run into so and so at the store when I looked like this? If you have then you understand exactly what I am talking about.

I love this quote by John Milton: "A man's reputation is what other people think of him; his character is what he really is."

We are never going to please everyone all the time and there is not one person alive that EVERYONE likes..not even one...So what I am focusing on is pleasing God, being true to who I really am and leaving the results to Him. This is a tall order especially for those of us that struggle with people pleasing.

I have wasted too much of my life worrying about what others think. What about you?

  4. I used to let "people pleasing" almost rule my life. And then, I "hit the wall"---developed an illness that saps ALOT of my energy (plus all my meds. side effects are fatigue).
Since you have started this blog (which has really been a lifeline to God, yourself, and the other women), I have become more conscious of 2 ideas:
    1) don't let anyone else define me
    2) what is the "price" of: clutter, trying to push myself beyond my present ability, being a "people-pleaser".
I usually realize the "price" is too high and I am no longer willing to pay it.
I find the folks I still want to "people please" (to like me) are people I have alot of respect for or admiration for.
    Gotta work on this!!

  5. I try to say that "i dont really care what people think" and I try to implement that as well. but deep down I think I care more than I know. LOL.

Which is lame. There are on days and off days with this.

  6. It's tough to really TRULY love yourself enough to allow yourself to be YOU. I think that what's hardest, is when you let go, and realize that you CAN'T please everyone. Because in not pleasing certain people, you learn who your REAL friends are... and sometimes, that's a hard pill to swallow.

  8. I try not to care what others think, but in 100% honesty, that's all I really care about.....what the young people think...what the hubsters thinks...my friends and family think....heck, what a lot of strangers think....how do you get around that??

  9. I love the beautiful journal and paper package you have put together. I'm wondering where the pretty contact type paper can be found for journal covers?

As far as trying to please people -- I think that's a trait that will always be with me, but as I grow older, I am more confident in what I think and how I react to others.
