God whispers to us in our pleasures,
speaks in our conscience,
but SHOUTS in our pains:
it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.
C.S. Lewis
Why is it that I always seem to be in pain before I surrender all? It would be so much easier to surrender all before the pain..Anyone else experience this? What pain in your life is God shouting at you through?

What a true quote that is! Thanks for sharing Susan! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSusan: What a beautiful cover for you 2009 scrapbook! I have this CS Lewis quote in my book of poetry & quotes. So true! My pain is currently deepening depression & trying to be everything to my husband and aging parents, at the expense of my true identity & worth. I'm "burned out". I KNOW I can't be any good to anyone if I don't take care of myself first, but...That is why I name this my "Year of Gentleness". It brings God "right here"(face front)! The pain is DEEP and BRUTAL---and as you mentioned before, I'm the ONLY one who can do anything about it---by spending MORE quiet time & ALONE time with the Lord....and not while there are literally other external voices "yanking" on me! Thanks for all your listening to me !! XO!
ReplyDeleteC.S. Lewis is a favourite of mine so I really enjoyed reading this quote.
ReplyDeleteBTW, your blog is wonderful. The posts have been so touching and thought-provoking. Thank you for sharing your heart with us.

ReplyDeleteI know what you are talking about, and I am sorry you are in pain.
ReplyDelete(Currently, I am very happily not in pain and I am so thankful!) I feel there can be many reasons we are brought into places of pain, but for me I think one of the biggest reasons is to learn compassion. If I never hurt, I wouldn't have much patience for those who do, and for those of us who work with people living in all sorts of pain, it is the ultimate teacher. It is a very grounding experience. As Søren Kierkegaard said, "Then comes affliction to awaken the dreamer..."
